The description

Purpose of the position

The MD Instructor in Clinical and Simulation Skills will work closely with the Faculty Director, Simulation Training to help direct the operation of this complex training facility located at KU-CMHS, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The MD Clinical and Simulation Skills Instructor will train and support faculty and clinical faculty on the use of immersive simulation and OSCEs to support the MD curriculum and outreach programs for clinical simulation.

Operational responsibilities

  • Liaise with relevant teams in the planning and execution of objective structured clinical examinations throughout Clinical Skills 1 and 2
  • Provide instruction on clinical skills
  • Facilitate learning by using new techniques and simulated medical situations that require students to participate in real-time, hands-on problem solving.
  • Educate with an emphasis on conceptual knowledge, basic skills and an introduction to real work.
  • Train with a focus on real tasks and work to be done in an authentic setting
  • Help students integrate theory and practice, specific to the course
  • Provide clear goals, expectations, and policies regarding performance metrics and equipment usage.
  • Disseminate course material (syllabus, assignments, discussion topics, etc.) to learners
  • Conduct clinical stimulation assignments to students and provide individual feedback
  • Evaluate student learning in a clinical setting.
  • Engage students in individualized instruction in observational assessment
  • Adhere to University information security and privacy policies and procedures and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of duties and responsibilities as required
  • Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Qualifications and experience

Qualifications required

  • Highest minimum medical degree and license to practice.
  • Medical clinical qualification (MD, MBBS).
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS certification and training status
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Previous experience teaching essential basic medical simulation
  • A background in medicine is highly desirable

Other requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills required.
  • Ensure continuous quality improvement in content, delivery and assessment through simulations and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) for Clinical Skills 1 and 2.
  • Ensure the appropriate use of the standardized patient program in simulation scenarios and its use and integration into clinical skills 1 and 2.
  • International work experience is preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel in the organization
  • Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions
  • In-depth knowledge of simulation services, technologies and applications
  • Thorough knowledge of adult education principles and methods, educational theory and instructional technology
  • Thorough knowledge of computer hardware and software applications relevant to simulator functions
  • Computer literacy in PC software applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven track record of leadership skills, management skills, project and team management abilities

Experience required

Expats:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

UAE nationals:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
