What is a socket open error

Open socket error

Before we get to the fix, let’s understand what it is and how the error appears so that you can avoid it in the future. When two programs run on a network, a socket creates two-way communication between them. When you make a connection request on the server port and machine, the FTP server responds to the socket.

If the connection request is accepted by the server, you can communicate with the server if your connection is successfully accepted. However, if there is no response from your side or from the server, an open socket error may occur.

Now that you know the nature of the socket open error. You can see that the open socket error on epic games does not come from a single source of error. Fix 1: Epic Games Server Status

Epic Games Socket Error: Server Status
Server status

This is the simplest solution; however, this can only happen when Epic Games is offline for its maintenance which happens at regular intervals. If it shows all four options as working, that means Epic Games server status is online and running. You can also check Epic Store Twitter account to see if an update or maintenance break is planned.

Fix 2: Run as Administrator

Go to your desktop and right click on the Epic Games icon which will show you a “Run as administrator” option. Click on this option and see if the open socket error is gone. This patch bypasses User Access Control (UAC) so you can bypass the restrictions it sets. It will also remove the error opening socket on Epic Games.

Fix 3: Changing DNS addresses

Internet service providers provide all of their customers with a default DNS address that most gamers use when playing games. DNS also has servers; just like a game server goes down, a DNS server can also go down, leading to errors. You can change your DNS to a more commercial and available DNS such as Open DNS and Google. Log in to Epic Games after doing so.
